Have you ever been doing something for your business and suddenly felt the urge of resistance?  Like you just don’t want to do it?  It happens to all of us.  What a lot of people don’t realize is that when this happens you really need to stop for a moment and ask yourself why it is happening.  

There’s several forms of resistance. There’s always a reason why that resistance is coming up. But it is so important to be aware that it is happening and actually look at the resistance from a different perspective. 

 

Two types of resistance: 

1) You are resisting something because it’s out of your comfort zone. It’s pushing you to a place that is way outside your comfort zone.  Maybe it’s something you’ve never done that puts you in a really vulnerable place. So you immediately create resistance around it. 

2) Sometimes resistance comes up simply because you’re trying to force yourself to do something that you just really don’t enjoy. So you’re trying to accomplish something in your business that you just don’t want to do because you don’t enjoy it.  

 

As always – let me share a quick story…

Last month, I had decided that one of my goals for the month was that I was going to do a 30 Day Yoga program with this popular yoga instructor on YouTube. I downloaded all of it, and I got ready to do it. I did the first day… and then the second day. But every day I found myself resisting it. I just was forcing myself to do it. So I sat with my thoughts for a minute and I thought long and hard about why I was resisting it.  And the reality was that I didn’t enjoy this instructor.  Her style of teaching didn’t match with the way I learn, her pace was much slower than I like etc… 

So it really made me realize that sometimes we resist things simply because we don’t enjoy them.  My resistance wasn’t at all because it was pushing me out of my comfort zone.

 

Be Mindful

I want you to be mindful of resistance when you feel it coming up in your business. A lot of times it usually comes up either as a pit in your stomach or a really heavy chest.  Usually you can feel that resistance inside your body. When this happens ask yourself these 2 things:

  • Is this pushing me outside of my comfort zone, and I need to push through this? 
  • Is this something I just don’t enjoy doing? 

 

Here’s the reality with any business strategy. 

If you’re following a strategy and every day resistance comes up,  the reality is you’re never going to execute it well. Be aware of it.  

This is why every single time that I’m creating a strategy with a client, my #1 question to them is: “How does it feel?”. Because if I can sense resistance, I’m going to ask that question so I can determine where that resistance is coming from. 

There’s a difference between resisting something because it’s out of your comfort zone and resisting something because you just don’t enjoy it. 

It’s on YOU to determine the difference and be HONEST with yourself.  If you don’t enjoy something, you’re never going to do it correctly. Find what works for you. When you can honor and be aware of the different types of resistance, that’s a game changer for your business strategy.
