Have you ever found yourself copying someone else’s business plan and trying to apply it to your business? I’m willing to bet if you are doing this, you may NOT be seeing positive results. This leads you to feeling unfulfilled and maybe even burned out. This is a prime example of not following your own passions and not creating a business that is genuine and authentic to you. Let’s explore mistake #8…

Not Following Your Passion

This mistake is probably the most important to me. If you gain nothing from this mini series, this is the one I want you to remember. Stop copying other people’s business models. Stop doing things you don’t enjoy. Stop building your business in a way that is not in alignment to you! That is not genuine to you and the things you value and love. That is not why you are in business!

It may cost you money now or down the line, but I guarantee it will cost you income in your business. Why? Because copying somebody else’s strategy, trying to be somebody that you are not, and trying to implement things that are not authentic and in alignment with YOU or in your zone of genius is only going to take you so far.

If you are trying to implement something that is not authentic to you, you cannot execute it well. If you are not passionate about it, you might execute and just go through the motions. But if your passion is not behind it, it will not light you up the way something that is authentic to you will.

Copying somebody else’s strategy only gets you so far. So then clients come to me because they’re ready to take it to the next level. Here’s the reality…to get to that next level, you’ve got to find what’s uniquely yours. You have to find your voice. You have to find what is so genuine to you that you can shout it from the rooftops. That is what is going to take you to that next level.

Embrace who you are…

You really need to be embracing who you truly are. You need to embrace even the little things that make you…you. For example, I have tattoos. Some people don’t like tattoos. But guess what??? They’re a part of me. I value that they’re genuine to me and it’s authentic. I’m not going to cover them up all the time.

Another example is that I have a very direct manner in my speaking. I can’t change that. I’m not going to present it in a different way on social media because when you work with me… that’s what you’re going to get right. If we work 1:1, you’re going to get that directness out of me. I embrace it!

So embrace who you truly are. If you don’t like to work in groups…don’t offer a group program. There are so many ways to scale your business. You do not have to do group programs if you don’t enjoy it. I don’t care that it worked for six other people. It’s never gonna work for you if you don’t enjoy it.

Find your unique gifts…

Following your passions is a game changer in your business. Finding your unique gifts is what is going to take you into that next level. There are clients out there for everybody. You can do whatever it is that you love to do. And when you love it and you’re so passionate about it, the energy that you put out into the world, into your business, and into your audience is so much different.

Stop trying to be somebody else. For example, the Done For You VIP day model is very popular right now. It works for some people. But it does not work for others. So when I say don’t copy somebody’s strategy, you can model your business after that if you want your business model to move into that VIP day style. But figure out what that VIP day looks like FOR YOU. Find what it is that is unique to you and what you’re passionate about. There are certain business models that you can utilize inside of your business, but you don’t need to copy somebody else’s exact strategy.

What should you do if you feel like you are not truly following your passion?

Spend some time reflecting on who you truly are and embrace that you need help with that. I have a workbook. Reflect on that and embrace it. Embrace who you genuinely are and build your business around that. When you build a business that is not genuine to you, it will lead to burnout. You’re only going to be able to execute that for so long. You’re only going to be able to uphold that persona for so long.

Not following your passion leads to burnout.

There are multiple people out there that have shared their stories about how they felt like they should be building their business this way because that was the thing to do. And it leads to them walking away, shutting down, or having to start over. You don’t want to do that!

When you’re not passionate about it and it’s not genuine to you, your audience can pick up on that in a hot second. Trust me when I tell you, if you were just going through the motions and you’re spitting out verbiage that everybody else is using versus using language that’s unique to you, people can smell it a mile away. Stop copying other people, and not following your own passions.

Create a business you love…

If you have this burning desire inside of you of what you really want to be doing in your business, I say do it. If you’re not sure how to do it, then find somebody that can help you execute and create a genuine business that you freakin love. That is what is going to make you the most money.

On the flipside of that, if there’s something you are doing in your business that does not align with how you want it to grow…Stop doing it. Because if it’s not costing you money now, it’s going to cost you money down the road. You don’t want to get to that point of burnout. Start following your passions and create a business that is genuine and authentic to you and watch how things change.
