Have you ever looked at your business and thought that you should be further along than you actually are? This is a conversation I have had a lot. So many entrepreneurs are feeling as though they aren’t where they should be, but they don’t understand why.  Let’s get to the cold, hard truth of why you are not further along in your business.

 

You need to be celebrating where you’re at in your business.

It goes without saying that you need to be celebrating where you’re at now.  Always worrying about why you’re not further along in your business takes you out of being able to celebrate how far you have come. Business takes time. Growth takes time.  You need to be celebrating the little incremental wins, and successes. When you think about it, you really have come so far.

 

Now, it’s time to get real.

I’m going to be honest and real because you know that’s who I am and what I do. The majority of the problem is your ability to stay consistent. One of the things that’s going to keep you stuck is inconsistency resulting from shiny object syndrome. This will keep you from growing and hitting that next revenue level. You have to stop bouncing from one thing to the next.  

 

You have to consistently show up…period.

Another thing that is stopping you from being further along in your business is you go from periods of being super consistent and showing up to not showing up at all. Once again, it all comes back to inconsistency. It takes time to build authority and get known in your industry, especially if you’re building solely online and you’re not doing any kind of networking. If you’re relying on content only, it’s a long game. To be truthful, you need to be in it for the long game. 

 

Stop changing your offers in your business all the time.

You cannot be changing up your offers all the time. Read that one more time. This is one of the biggest problems I see in the online space. You need to find a suite of offers that you feel good about. Then, you need to stick with them for at least six months. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t tweak them along the way. There’s a lot of things that you can do to tweak your offers.  

Your offer suite needs to stay consistent because your messaging needs to be consistent. The reason you can’t get further along is because your audience doesn’t know how to work with you when you’re constantly changing from one thing to the next. It creates this endless cycle of clients in and clients out. And you’re doing something different for each of them. This will hinder your growth every single time. 

 

Growth is built on momentum.

The way you get momentum is to continue to promote, say, and do the same things. I know it sounds boring, but it’s true. The reason that we bounce from one thing to the next is because we are entrepreneurs! We’re constantly flooded with new ideas.  But the reality is, that is not actually helping you.  In a lot of ways, it’s actually hindering you.  

Let’s use a copywriter who has primarily focused on social media and launch copy as an example. Just when your audience thinks they know that you focus solely on social media and launch copy, but then you put out an offer that says you want to redo websites. It confuses your audience because you’re not staying focused and consistent on one thing. 

In this case, the type of work you are writing for is completely different. The clients and their needs are different. A client that needs social copy doesn’t necessarily need website copy. So you’ve made this switch, and you think you’re doing a great thing, but now all these clients that have been following you and are  ready to do business with you for your social copy, see that switch and go elsewhere. So you have to make sure that you’re staying consistent in what you offer and your messaging.

 

Find that suite of offers that you love. 

This is why I talk about the 3 tiered offer, my Destination Fully Booked program, and my R.O.U.T.E program.  In these programs, we get your offers aligned. Then in the R.O.U.T.E. program, it is about up leveling and creating that 3 tiered suite of offers. The goal is for you to be able to say here’s who I am, here’s what I do, and here’s how you can work with me. If you are constantly changing what you offer, it creates confusion for your audience. When you start to build something up, then you completely shut yourself down, there’s no room for referral.  

So if you are feeling like you’re stuck or that you should be further along in your business, your inconsistency is probably what’s keeping you stuck. It’s what’s keeping you from hitting that next revenue level.  Your inconsistency is keeping you from doing all the things you desire in your business.  It’s what’s keeping you from working with that next level client because they don’t know where you are. They don’t know how to work with you.

Consistency is what is going to get you to that next level in your business.

There’s small changes that can happen as you grow, but you have to stay consistent with what you do and how people can work with you.
