Have you ever taken the time to sit down and look at far you have come? As business owners, we are always looking forward at what’s next. We are always chasing the next goal, next milestone, or next offer. It’s so easy to get caught up in that mindset and feel like you have so much left to accomplish before you can consider yourself to be “successful”. But the truth is you have already accomplished so much.
Take time to look how far you’ve come.
This was something I started doing recently. I’ve been doing a journaling exercise inspired by my Reiki practitioner Britt Jones. She challenged me to do this journaling exercise which was just basically to write whatever comes to mind. One of the things that really came up the other day was “look how far you’ve come”.
I’m sharing it with you today because it is powerful for entrepreneurs and small business owners to look at how far we’ve already come. The reality is we’re always looking at what we’ve yet to accomplish. We’re always forward-looking and chasing that next goal. Sometimes it can get a little defeating.
Look how far you’ve come and celebrate your wins.
You really need to be actually celebrating and reflecting on all your wins, both big and small. I went through this myself, and it was amazing. You could do this back as far as you want. When I did this exercise, I started way back when I graduated high school. I went into cosmetology and then I got a job. And I think in my first job, I was making like $13 per hour.
Then, I worked my way up the ladder in New York. But then, we moved to Florida and I started all over again. I took a job at $13 per hour and started doing some consulting on the side for $25 per hour. Here’s some perspective for you. Right now, my power hours bill out at $347. When I sat down and really thought about it, I realzied that it has been an amazing ride so far. I have accomplished so much.
Don’t get caught up in what you have yet to accomplish.
It’s easy to get trapped in nonsense about all the things you haven’t accomplished yet. You can’t get caught up in all the should’ve, could’ve, and would’ve of business. That’s going to hold you back. It stops you from actually being able to celebrate all of the things that you’ve already accomplished. It’s amazing to see like truly how far you’ve come, how much you’ve accomplished, how much you’ve achieved, how much you’ve changed, and how much you’ve grown.
Give it a try.
I really want to encourage you to do the “look how far you’ve come” exercise. Grab a notebook or piece of paper and just start writing, ”Look at how far I’ve come…” Go back as far as you want. But I really want you to truly think about all the different progressions you’ve made and how much growth you really have had. Even if you’re newer to entrepreneurial life, look how far you’ve come. Look at how much has changed and how much you have grown personally and professionally.
There are so many different areas to look at like your health, your wellness, your fitness, your finances, and so many different things. The key is to not focus on what you have yet to accomplish. This is 100% your journey, but it’s truly just there to help you see and be proud of yourself. You have really accomplished far more than you’re giving yourself credit for.
I’m curious to know how you feel about it.
What came out of this exercise for you? So if you want to share it with me, please DM me. You don’t have to share your journal with me. I just want you to share with me how you felt afterward.
