It’s Okay To Be A Party of One

Here’s an unpopular opinion for you. You don’t have to scale your business to a large coaching business or agency. It’s perfectly okay to be a party of one! Having a team or employees is not the end all be all of running a successful business. You can be just as successful as a solopreneur as someone who builds up a large team.

 

Party of one example.

I have a client who restarted his business in a new location.  He got kind of busy. When I first started working with him, he said that his goal was to get out of doing the actual work as fast as possible. He wanted to get employees to do the actual work and he wanted to run the marketing side of his business.  

Well, about a month in, he was actually enjoying the fact that the only person he had to worry about was himself. He liked that if he quoted a certain price, he knew that he could go and get the job done. And he liked knowing he didn’t have to rely on anybody else to do the job for him. And bonus, he was making a fairly decent profit from it because his overhead expenses were low.  He was enjoying being a party of one!

 

You can remain a party of one.

A lot of the gurus in the online space make it out like the only way to be successful is for you to hire a freakin team and to grow.  But you have to really look at what your goals are. What are your values? And what do you really want to gain out of this? 

Building a large team is not for everybody. Listen to me when I tell you that you don’t have to do it to be successful. There are a lot of people out there that have grown their business very successfully as a party of one. 

 

Now, I’m not saying you don’t need to get help eventually.

You might need admin help or help with your marketing or your social media.  I’m not saying that you can’t have a couple of team members that you bring on as independent contractors. But what I’m talking about is having employees underneath you scaling to multiple 7 figures. 

I’m not saying that there’s not money out there. And I’m not saying that there’s no scaling to that. For some people, that’s a huge aspiration. But I’ve always said the same thing. I enjoy only having to worry about myself.  There’s so much power in that.  

 

“Party of one” could equal better profitability. 

You have to look at yourself from a profitability standpoint. When my client started getting referrals for bigger jobs, he thought he might need to look into hiring an employee. But he felt like he couldn’t quote the jobs higher to accommodate for this second employee and other related expenses. You have to look at the numbers there, too. Sometimes you can make more profit without having all of these additional expenses. 

 

You also have to consider what you want to be known for.

My client wanted to be known as the guy who doesn’t have a long waitlist and can serve his clients quickly. We can scale that to a really great place depending on what he’s looking to do. And you can do the same!

There are so many business models out there that are going to allow you to scale and get to multiple 6 figures. Don’t let anybody tell you that the only way to scale to 6 figures is to grow a team. Trust me, I can introduce you to somebody who scaled her entire business to multiple 6 figures using the VIP day model as a party of one. 

 

You can scale your business as a party of one.

You can offer different programs, bring in passive income, and do courses. There are a million ways to scale your business without feeling like you need to grow into an agency or full-blown employee-centered company. So be okay and happy with the party one. 

My goals and aspirations with my business are not to have a million employees. I just do not want to do that. It goes against all of my values and integrity. I like being the face of the company and the one doing the work. Personally, I like being one on one with my clients. That’s not for everybody, but it’s what works for me. And that’s okay, too. It can be okay for you as well.
