If you want to grow your business, you have to get uncomfortable AND STAY UNCOMFORTABLE. Growth doesn’t happen in your comfort zone. We all know that. But did you know that your excuses are most likely what’s holding you back from stepping into that uncomfortable space that allows you to grow your business? It’s true! These excuses keep you in your comfort zone and keep you from having to be uncomfortable enough to push yourself to the next level. So how do you overcome these excuses to get uncomfortable and stay uncomfortable? Let’s talk about it in part 1 of my Growth Mindset Series.

I have made an uncomfortable decision in my business.

It was honestly pretty scary for a good couple of weeks. This decision is that I am only going to take on 1:1 clients, by application only, and only through the end of September or mid-October. Your application would have to come through by end of September and we’d have to be started working together at the latest by October 15th. This applies to my one-month intensive, my two-month intensive, or my Rapid Fire Coaching programs.

Now before you think that I’ve lost my mind, know that there’s a reason for it. I really want to go all in with the Alliance. And I absolutely love doing 1:1 coaching, and I love serving people 1:1. However, I also really love what is happening inside the alliance.

I have had the vision for the Alliance since 2019, and I have been dabbling for far too long. It’s time for me to go all in. The Alliance is so amazing and beautiful. It is becoming a space that I never truly could have even imagined. I had a vision for it. But how it’s actually coming together is more beautiful than I ever could have imagined. And I want it to grow because it is such a space that everybody needs.

I don’t want any of you to think that I don’t still have a passion for coaching because I absolutely love it. My brain fires on all cylinders when I am on strategy and coaching calls. However, this is really important, and it’s a beautiful lesson for all of you too.

You cannot grow two things at the same time.

I can’t push and try to continue to grow the Alliance and be in client acquisition mode on the 1:1 side. There was a push-pull. I knew this was going to happen at some point and that I was going to need to decide which direction to go. So I am still taking on clients right now. If you’ve been on the fence at all, now is the time.

Trust me when I tell you that I’ve had a lot of mindset issues come up around this decision. It has not been an easy one. My mindset coach and I have been on the phone a lot. I absolutely hate being in the push. So I’m not going to do it. I’m simply saying that I need to move and focus my attention on actually creating awareness and visibility around the Alliance, but I still have room. As a note, I will be taking on new clients again towards the beginning of 2023. I’m not walking away from coaching. But I know where what my capacity is.

This is an example of me getting uncomfortable and staying uncomfortable.

You need to start recognizing the excuses that you’re using that are holding you back. See if any of these sound familiar:

  • I don’t like the sound of my voice on video or audio.
  • I don’t want to send a DM because I don’t want to be spammy.
  • I don’t like the way I look on camera.
  • I don’t want to bother people.
  • I don’t really like small talk.
  • I’m too introverted.
  • I don’t really like to talk to people.
  • People intimidate me.
  • Tech intimidates me.

Listen, we all have these things that come up. I don’t love the sound of my voice either. But I do a podcast twice a week, and you see me on video all the time. I’m not asking you to go back and replay it to listen to yourself. If you don’t like the sound of your voice, don’t go back and listen to it.

If you don’t want to bother people think about this. How many times have you signed up for something and gotten text messages about sales and such? Trust me when I tell you, nobody else is thinking about whether or not they’re going to send you that text message. These big businesses and brands don’t think about whether or not they’re bothering you. They’re sending you a message based on data.

The thing is…you have to get into that same mindset even if it’s uncomfortable.

It’s not bothering people. You need to just send the damn message and reach out. If somebody is that bothered by you, they’re not going to be your client in the first place. So send it. Stop with these excuses. Think about it. This is where I’m saying you’ve got to get out of this mindset and get uncomfortable.

You are never going to grow your business beyond the point it is right now if you don’t work on getting a little bit uncomfortable.

I am not talking about getting massively uncomfortable in one huge, massive step. I’m not saying that you need to go from never showing up on camera to being on camera 10 times a day. But I am talking about taking that one small step and pushing yourself to move beyond the excuses. But you also have to recognize those excuses. When you say them, I want you to ask yourself, Why am I saying this? What is the reason behind this statement?”

You have to get out of your own head.

Be willing to do those little uncomfortable things. I understand that it’s really hard most of the time. Sometimes, we can’t do it ourselves, which is where Rapid Fire coaching may be a great option for you. Let me help you get uncomfortable. Go read any of my reviews. They’re going to tell you that I have no problem giving you that little kick in the tush. And then I’m gonna wrap you in a hug, and we’re gonna get through it.

That is the beautiful thing about having somebody that can just recognize those excuses when you are holding yourself back. Because that’s what it really is. You have to get out of your own way. Because if you don’t, you’re never going to grow.

How can you start to get uncomfortable?

I want you to start being extremely aware of the things that come out of your mouth, the statements that you’re making, and the reasons why you’re not doing something. I want you to think about something you’re procrastinating on this very minute. And I want you to ask yourself, ”Why am I procrastinating on this?” If you can’t come up with a valid reason, even if your valid reason is “I don’t know how to do it.”, then go find somebody that can help you do it.

If your reason is, “I don’t like it.” Ask yourself, “Do I really need to be doing this? Is there something I can do that I do like?” If the reason is, “I don’t want to bother somebody.” Shut the hell up and go do it anyways because you’re not bothering anybody. Be extremely mindful of the excuses that are coming up.

I’m telling you that if you want to grow your business, you have to be willing to make those uncomfortable decisions.

Then, you have to understand when and where those decisions are holding you back. When you stay in discomfort, all of a sudden those excuses that made you uncomfortable a week ago, are no longer uncomfortable. But something else is going to come up. That’s what I mean by staying uncomfortable.

If something is continuing to be uncomfortable for you and you never get better at it, that’s when you need to just be aware of figuring out if it’s for you or not. Sometimes being uncomfortable is because you’re trying to implement something of somebody else’s that is just not a good fit for you. I found myself in this position recently.

I cannot stress enough that part of the reason you are uncomfortable and you’re holding yourself back is because you’re trying to make a massive leap. You’re trying to go from 0 to 10 in one fell swoop. That just doesn’t happen. I literally need you to go from 0 to 1. Take it in incremental small steps. What is it that you need to do? And how can you get there?

If you want if you can’t get out of your own way, and you need somebody to help push you…

Let’s talk. Maybe you’re just not even sure where to turn. Sometimes it’s not that you’re unwilling to get uncomfortable. You just don’t know what the first step is. Again, I’m here, and I’m available. I want to help you. Apply for one of the 1:1 spots, because I promise you, it’s going to be worth it for you.
