We’re living in an external validation culture.
It’s everywhere.
Especially in the online space.
Especially on social.
Especially with tools like AI.
It’s become easy to get caught up in this loop where all we want is someone, or something, to tell us we’re right. But if all you’re ever seeking is agreement, you’re not growing. You’re not thinking critically. And you sure as hell aren’t making strategic decisions.
Here is your wake-up call to stop chasing validation and start thinking for yourself.
Everyone Just Wants to Be Agreed With
Let’s talk about what’s actually going on.
People are posting for validation. They don’t want conversation, they want someone to say, “You’re absolutely right.”
And guess what? Tools like ChatGPT feed that on repeat. It’s always going to say, “Absolutely, you’re right.” Even when you’re not. That’s a dangerous loop if you’re not asking yourself: “Does this actually make sense for me and my business?”
Validation feels good. It feeds the ego. But it also kills your ability to think strategically. And that’s when we end up with cookie-cutter ideas, voices, and results.
People Want to Be Right More Than They Want to Grow
Let that one land: People would rather be right than grow.
Being agreed with feels comfortable. Being challenged? Not so much.
But if all you ever do is seek out what feels good, you’re not going to see the results you really want.
Here’s what I tell my clients all the time:
You don’t pay me to agree with you. You pay me to challenge you.
If all you want is agreement, AI’s got you. But if you want strategy, if you want results, you need to be willing to think deeper.
The Problem with Playing It Safe
I’m not here to rag on AI. I use it. I like it. It’s amazing for idea generation and getting into momentum.
But here’s the thing:
- AI doesn’t know what you’ve tried before
- It doesn’t know your personality
- It doesn’t know your goals
- It doesn’t remember what didn’t work last time
And that’s the trap. You get an idea, ChatGPT says, “That’s amazing! Want help building it?” and suddenly you’re off to the races.
But no one asked the hard question:
“Did this work the last time you tried it?”
Safe ideas might get you results. But are they the results you’re actually after?
That’s why I always say: if you want my agreement, I’ll give it to you. But only after we’ve made sure your expectations are aligned with the results you’re chasing.
Are You Actually Thinking Strategically, or Just Seeking Agreement?
- Ask better questions. Don’t just ask AI (or people) what’s best: ask why. Ask about objections. Ask what you might be missing.
- Stop looking for instant agreement. If someone’s always saying yes, they’re not helping you grow.
- Get clear on what you actually want. Are you looking for feedback, or just a permission slip?
- Use AI to compare ideas, not validate them. Give it two options and ask it to help you evaluate, not just endorse.
- Challenge yourself. When was the last time you made a decision without running it by someone else first?
Validation Isn’t Just Coming From AI
Let’s be clear, this isn’t just an AI thing. It shows up everywhere:
- Inside masterminds
- In biz bestie chats
- On social posts
- In every feedback loop we create
If you’re throwing out an idea and everyone says, “Yes, amazing, do it,” and you don’t get a single challenge? Ask for one. Say, “I want someone to poke holes in this.”
Because that’s where growth happens.
That’s where clarity comes in.
That’s when you get better ideas, and better results.
Final Word: Make a Decision Without Asking for Approval
Here’s your challenge this week:
Make one decision without seeking validation.
Don’t ask AI. Don’t ask your mastermind. Don’t post about it on Instagram.
Just decide. Act on it. Trust yourself.
You’ve got the answers.
You’re not lacking information.
What you might be lacking is belief in your own strategic thinking.
And if you know you’ve been stuck in validation mode, and it’s not getting you where you want to go, book a call. Because I will challenge you. That’s what people pay me for.
And honestly? That challenge might be exactly what you need to break out of the cycle.
