What does radical responsibility mean to you?
Not the cute, motivational version. I’m talking about actually owning every decision, every result, and every outcome in your business. The good, the bad, the annoying, and the things you’d rather blame on something (or someone) else.
This has been the biggest conversation I’ve been having with clients inside the Focused Visionary Accelerator, and with myself. And it’s time we talk about it here.
Because here’s the truth:
If you want 2026 to be different, you have to be different. And that starts with radical responsibility.
What It Really Means to Own It All
Radical responsibility means fully owning every result in your business.
That includes the moments when:
- The strategy didn’t land
- The client ghosted
- The launch flopped
- The opportunity didn’t turn out how you expected
You don’t get to blame the market. You don’t get to blame the client. You don’t get to blame Instagram’s algorithm.
You get to look at what you did, and what you didn’t do.
You don’t have to be perfect, but you have to be asking: “Where can I take full ownership here?”
How Are You Giving Your Power Away?
You might be giving your power away without even realizing it.
- Telling a lead, “Let me know when you’re ready”
- Getting triggered by someone’s content but not doing anything to shift the trigger
- Saying yes to opportunities and then blaming others when they don’t go well
- Letting clients push your boundaries, and then getting mad about it
That’s you handing the ball to someone else and waiting for them to run your business for you.
If you’re frustrated with something, ask yourself: What did I do to create or allow this? And what am I going to do about it now?
Where Are You Hoping Instead of Deciding?
Ask yourself this:
- Are you sitting in limbo, waiting for motivation?
- Are you waiting for someone to send a referral instead of following up?
- Are you waiting for someone to post a call for podcast guests instead of pitching yourself?
Hope is not a strategy. You have to be making decisions.
You either want the result, or you don’t. If you do, then what are you doing to get it?
When Things Don’t Go as Planned
I said yes to a paid speaking opportunity last year. It looked good on paper. I asked questions. I did some research. But the turnout? Terrible.
I was pissed. I wanted a refund. I blamed the host.
But then I sat with it. And I asked myself: What responsibility can I take here?
I reconnected with someone I hadn’t talked to in years. That might turn into a collaboration in 2026. There was a photographer there and now I’ve got updated branding photos. The videography? I didn’t get it yet, but I can ask for it. And if I don’t ask, that’s on me.
Radical responsibility is saying: This didn’t go how I wanted, but here’s what I can do.
How Do You Start Leading Yourself with Radical Responsibility?
Start here:
- Ask where you embodied radical responsibility last year.
What decisions did you make that created results? How did you show up? - Ask where you gave your power away.
Where did you wait instead of follow up? Where did you let clients cross boundaries? - Ask where you’ve been hoping instead of deciding.
What are you waiting on that you could be creating? - Flip the script when things go wrong.
What lesson can you take from it? What can you ask for? What action can you still take? - Know when you’ve done all you can.
Sometimes, you do everything right, and someone else still doesn’t show up. That’s radical responsibility too. You know you did your part.
The People Getting Big Results Aren’t Waiting
They’re not sitting in limbo. They’re not blaming. They’re not hoping something shifts.
They’re making moves even if they’re imperfect, messy, or uncomfortable.
At the beginning of 2025, I was ready to quit. I was applying for jobs. Nothing was working. You know what shifted everything?
I asked myself: “Michelle, what are you going to do?”
And then I moved. I launched Back Pocket Insights. I started putting ideas out without overthinking. I made decisions, fast. I stopped waiting for the energy to shift and created it myself.
That’s what changed everything. Not a new funnel. Not a new coach. Radical. Responsibility.

What would it look like to stop waiting and start deciding?
