There’s this truth no one really wants to hear, but it’s what separates the business owners who scale with clarity from the ones who are predisposed to be burned out and spin their wheels:
You can’t be in all business seasons at once.
Yet most entrepreneurs try to be. They’re selling, launching, building, optimizing, growing… all at the same time. Then they wonder why they’re exhausted, unfocused, and not seeing results.
Let’s talk about it.
What Season Are You In?
Just like life has seasons: summer, fall, winter, spring, your business does too. But unlike nature, most business owners act like it’s summer all year long.
They’re constantly in go-mode. Launch mode. Sell-everything mode.
That’s not sustainable. And it’s definitely not strategic.
When you actually know what season your business is in, you can align your energy, your calendar, and your strategy to support it. And that’s when momentum really starts to build.
Here’s how I break it down inside the Focused Visionary Accelerator (FEA): we operate in 60-day focus sprints, and in each one, we ask: What season am I in right now?
Because when you define the season, you define the focus. And that’s where progress happens.
The 3 Core Business Seasons (Plus One Bonus)
1. Sales Season
This is your active selling phase: launches, conversion, follow-up, onboarding. Your offers are front and center. You’re in motion.
Should you always be selling? Technically yes. But not always in active sales mode. If your audience is tapped or your lead gen is dry, you might be forcing something that’s not ready yet.
2. Visibility Season
This is where you’re building. Brand awareness, lead generation, nurturing, PR, getting in front of new people. Laying the groundwork for future sales.
You might be posting, speaking, showing up on new platforms, like when I was testing Threads in July, not to sell, but to get visible.
3. Operational Season
This is your backend build-out. SOPs, automations, delivery systems, optimizing workflows: the stuff that supports everything else. Usually this is the quiet time in your business, but it’s essential.
Because if you’re driving traffic and making sales without the infrastructure to support it? That growth will crumble underneath you.
Bonus: Client/Onboarding Season
This isn’t always mentioned, but it’s real, especially if you launch and suddenly have a flood of clients to onboard. That takes energy. That needs its own space.
How do you know what season you’re in?
Here are five dead-simple questions I ask my clients inside FEA when they feel out of sync:
- Where is your energy being pulled naturally?
Are you onboarding? Following up? Heavy into content? Your current actions will tell you what season you’re in, even if you haven’t named it yet. - What feels like your most urgent business need right now?
Sales might feel urgent. But do you even have an audience to sell to? - What’s being neglected that needs attention?
Is your website outdated? Are your automations a mess? Are people opting into offers that don’t even exist anymore? That’s an ops red flag. - What does your business need most to sustain growth in the next 60–120 days?
This helps you zoom out. Are you building for Q4? Prepping for the new year? Don’t just plan for today. Plan for what’s coming. - Where’s your actual capacity?
Be honest. If your life is busy, your calendar is full, or your brain is fried, trying to push through a sales season is going to backfire.
Let Each Season Fuel the Next
When you embrace seasonality, you create a cycle of momentum that actually supports growth.
- Visibility Season builds momentum and fills your pipeline
- Sales Season converts that visibility into clients
- Client Season requires onboarding and focused delivery
- Operational Season opens up capacity so you can scale
- Then? It’s time for visibility again.
And so it goes… a rhythm that keeps your business moving forward without getting burned out.
So… What Season Are You In?
If you’re sitting here thinking, I’m trying to do all of them, then that’s your answer.
That’s why it feels like nothing is moving, even though you’re doing all the things. You’re giving 33% to three different priorities, and not seeing results in any of them.
It’s not about doing less. It’s about doing the right things in the right season.
And when you do that?
You give yourself permission to focus, simplify, and actually finish what you start.
What does your business need most right now?
Ask yourself:
- Where is your natural energy going right now?
- What’s the most urgent need: visibility, sales, or operations?
- What have you been avoiding or neglecting that’s starting to show?
- Do you have the audience to sell to, or do you need to go find them?
- What season do you need to be in to hit your goals by the end of the year?
Get clear. Get focused. Then go all in on that season for the next 60 days.
You Don’t Have to Do It All Right Now
The biggest shift for me came when I let myself just be in visibility mode for July and August.
No pressure to convert. No stress about sales. Just focused on showing up, being seen, and building connections.
Guess what happened?
Sales happened anyway, because I wasn’t trying to force them.
So don’t panic if you’re in an ops season. Don’t rush through visibility just to get to sales. Don’t feel behind if your energy is with clients right now.
Know your season. Own it. Build from there.
