Every few months, the same chatter pops up:
“Masterclasses don’t work anymore.”
“No one watches webinars.”
“People aren’t showing up.”
Let me be clear.
Conversion events still work.
They’ve always worked in my business, and I’ve been doing this for nine years. But what has changed is how people are showing up. And what they actually want out of these events.
If your conversion event didn’t hit, it’s probably not because of the format.
It’s because of the way you positioned it.
Let’s break it down.
What Actually Makes a Conversion Event Convert?
People are craving connection and conversation. They want an experience.
Not just to be sold to.
That’s the difference between an infomercial and an intentional conversion event.
When someone shows up to your masterclass, workshop, or training, they want:
- To feel seen
- To walk away with something tangible
- To experience how you think and teach
If you deliver that? The conversion will take care of itself.
The Word You Use Doesn’t Matter, The Positioning Does
Whether you call it a masterclass, workshop, challenge, training, or live series… it doesn’t really matter. There’s no magic name that makes it convert better.
Everyone interprets those words differently anyway.
Some people still use the word “webinar” and it works great. Others hear “webinar” and immediately think, “I’m about to get pitched for 45 minutes straight.”
So stop obsessing over the name. Start focusing on how it’s positioned in your pipeline.
Because that’s where most people mess this up.
The Real Problem: You’ve Got It in the Wrong Place in Your Funnel
If your conversion event isn’t converting, you probably misaligned the audience with the next step.
Here’s an example from my own business:
- I run a three-day planning workshop every December. It’s low cost. It’s live. It builds trust. And it always leads into a higher investment next step like FEA, The Missing Piece, or one-on-one.
- But the people attending that workshop? They aren’t new. They’re warm. They’ve been in my world, they’ve referred in, they’ve worked with me before.
I also run a masterclass before that event specifically designed for cold leads. People who’ve never worked with me. For them, the next step is the three-day workshop.
That’s how it works.
Cold leads need a smaller step.
Warm leads are ready for more.
If your event didn’t convert, ask yourself:
Were you trying to sell a high-ticket offer to a cold room?
Because that’s not a conversion problem. That’s a pipeline problem.
What Makes a Conversion Event Actually Convert?
- Know where it fits in your funnel. Is this event for cold leads or warm ones? What’s the next step? Is it too big? Too soon?
- Create urgency and momentum. People don’t want to lose the energy they just picked up in your event. Leverage that with a fast-action bonus or special offer.
- Deliver actual value. If people walk away feeling like they learned something and got clarity, they’ll want more.
- Don’t wing it. Be clear on what the next step is. Be specific. Don’t say “DM me to chat.” Say, “Book this call to talk about XYZ offer.”
- Use your style. If your energy shines in done-with-you workshops, run those. If you’re a killer on camera, do a live masterclass. Align it with how you show up best.
If You’re Not Getting Sign-Ups, Ask Better Questions
A lot of people think they promoted their event heavily. But did you?
Or did you just feel like you did?
If someone says, “I didn’t even know you were running that,” it’s not because they weren’t interested. It’s because they didn’t see it.
Promotion matters.
Timing matters.
Format matters.
And yes: free vs. paid matters too.
If you’re focused on list growth or visibility, run it free.
If you want to pre-qualify buyers and sell a high-ticket offer? Make it low-cost. Even a $27–$49 price point will filter in people who are thinking about the next step.
Don’t Host Another Event Without a Clear Next Step
This is where so many people fall flat. They treat the conversion event like the end.
It’s not. It’s the bridge.
Every single event needs a next step. Period.
And not a vague “reach out if you want more” kind of next step.
Tell them:
- What the next step is
- Why it matters
- How it helps them keep the momentum they just built
- What the actual benefit is
People aren’t dumb. They know there’s a next step coming.
So stop tiptoeing around it. Be direct. Be clear.
Final Word: Every Strategy Works If You Work It the Right Way
If you walked away from your last event frustrated or disappointed, it doesn’t mean conversion events are dead. It just means you need to look at the facts.
- Who signed up?
- Where were they in your funnel?
- Did the timing work?
- Did you give them value?
- Was your next step clear?
I believe in this strategy because it still works. And you’ve got plenty of time to run one in Q1.
Don’t give up on conversion events. Just get smarter about how you use them.
