I’ve been there, too.
Overthinking.
Watering down what I really want to say.
Holding back from content that might open a can of worms.
But here’s what I know for sure:
Someone with less skill than you is getting clients right now because they’re showing up unapologetically.
Let’s just say it: Playing it safe doesn’t get you clients.
If you’ve been holding back from posting, speaking up, or sharing what you actually think because of one person, a few people, or everyone on the internet who might judge you, you’re keeping yourself small. And you’re not the only one.
They’re getting noticed.
They’re not overthinking every move.
They’re making noise, and they’re getting the business.
Why You’re Not Saying What You Really Think
This year, I did a hypno-breathwork session that kept bringing up one word for me: Unapologetic. That was supposed to be my word, my energy. But I haven’t been living it.
I was literally telling my husband before recording this episode that I have strong opinions. But I don’t always put them in my content. Why? Because they go against what a lot of people are saying. And I don’t always want to deal with the backlash. Maybe you’ve felt the same.
You’ve got opinions. You’ve got the skill.
But you’re watering it down because you don’t want unsubscribes, unfollows, or an argument in your comments.
So you stay quiet.
And the loudest voices: the ones that aren’t always the most skilled, keep getting the opportunities, the growth, and the attention.
Not because they’re better. Because they’re louder.
The Clients You Actually Want? They Need to Hear the Real You
Let’s be honest.
We all know what it feels like to scroll past post after post that sounds the same.
The doom scroll. The ChatGPT-sameness.
No voice. No edge. Just fluff.
That’s what happens when you water down your message. You blend in.
You attract the wrong clients.
You stay stuck in the cycle of being “liked” instead of being trusted.
And let’s be clear:
Your ideal clients want someone who’s bold enough to say what needs to be said.
They want to hear what you really think.
They want to hear what you stand for.
Because that’s what builds trust. That’s what gets them to say,
“She’s the one. She’s who I want to work with.”
How do you show up unapologetically and still stand in your expertise?
- Say the thing you’ve been avoiding. You know the one. That opinion you hold back because it might go against the grain. Post it.
- Don’t worry about pointing out what’s wrong, just say what’s true. You don’t need to call someone out. You just need to own your voice.
- Remember who you’re speaking to. You’re not creating content for your critics. You’re speaking to your right-fit clients.
- Stop softening your message. The more you sugarcoat, the more you blend in. And you are not here to blend in.
- Take up space like the CEO you are. You want to grow and scale? Start by owning your seat at the table. Speak like the leader of your business.
You’re Not Here to Please Everyone
Let’s just call this what it is:
Most of you listening are incredibly skilled. But you’ve never been business owners before. You’re building a business off a skill you’ve monetized. And you’re afraid to take up the space that comes with owning the title of CEO.
But CEO to me means the one who makes educated decisions. The one who knows what’s going on in the business.
And if you want to grow, you have to step into that role.
That might not resonate with everyone.
But that’s the point.
Because if it doesn’t land, they’re probably not your person, or they’re just not ready to hear it yet. And that’s okay. But you still have to say it.
This Is Your Permission Slip
Say the thing.
Make the bold statement.
Post the content that actually sounds like you.
Stop worrying about the one person who won’t like it and start thinking about the dozens, maybe hundreds, who need to hear it.
Because here’s the truth:
When people don’t know what you really stand for, they don’t know when to buy from you.
You don’t need to defend your position.
You don’t need to argue in the comments.
You can delete it. Block them. Unfollow.
Protect your energy and move on.
But what you can’t do is stay silent and expect people to magically find and trust you.
Ready to Be Heard?
I want you to post something bold.
Say the thing you’ve been holding back on.
State it clearly, without apology.
Show up however you want: on video, long-form, short-form, whatever fits.
But show up.
Tag me when you do. I’ll celebrate you. I’ll share it.
Because we need more skilled, honest voices showing up and saying what actually matters.
Let’s stop letting the loudest people be the only ones being heard.
