The real truth about six figures and why its not what you think

The Real Truth About Six Figures (And Why It’s Not What You Think)

You know that moment when you’re standing at the edge of something big, something you thought would feel wildly different than it does? That’s how I felt sitting in on a webinar recently, listening to someone break down “The Eight Figure Way.”

Eight. Figures.

And I couldn’t help but laugh a little, not because it’s a bad goal, but because we haven’t even gotten honest about six figures yet.

Maybe You’ve Been Here Too

You hit a $10K month, or at least get close, and suddenly the internet’s whispering in your ear: “Scale to $100K. You’re almost there.”

But here’s the hard truth: that six-figure milestone everyone talks about like it’s the holy grail? It’s a range, not a result. $100K and $999K are both technically “six figures,” but they are two entirely different businesses with two entirely different strategies.

And most importantly, a $100K business does not mean you’re taking home $100K.

Why This Six-Figure Chase is So Misunderstood

We’ve been sold the story that $100K is where real success begins. Corporate culture told us that was the dream income. So when entrepreneurs hit that number in revenue, we assume we’ve made it.

But let’s do the math.

  • $100K in revenue
  • ~20% in expenses (team, tools, tech): -$20K
  • ~30% taxes (give or take): -$30K
= $50K take-home pay (before insurance, debt, or savings)

You read that right. You’re bringing home a salary that barely covers your life, certainly not enough to retire your husband or take Fridays off.

Now layer on the inconsistent income from launches, high upfront expenses, and low cash flow planning…and the reality of six figures gets even murkier.

So if you’re wondering, “Why does it still feel so hard even though I’ve hit $100K?” you’re not broken. You’re just looking at inflated numbers without the full picture.

What Got You Here Won’t Get You There

This is where so many entrepreneurs stall out.

You hustle your way to $100K. You build relationships. You’re on every coffee chat, doing it all yourself.

But to grow beyond that? You need different strategies, not more hustle.

Let me break it down:

Getting to $100K:

  • Driven by consistent action and relationships
  • DIY marketing and delivery
  • One or two core offers
  • Word-of-mouth sales and referrals

Scaling to $250K:

  • You can’t do it all anymore
  • Refined, high-converting offers
  • Pricing that aligns with profitability
  • Repeatable systems in sales and delivery
  • Possibly your first hires or contractors
  • Focus on retention and client lifetime value

Growing to $500K:

  • Operational efficiency becomes everything
  • You’re no longer the bottleneck
  • Lean team, optimized roles, strong systems
  • Scalable delivery (evergreen, group programs, etc.)
  • Strategic marketing (maybe even ads)

In short: each level demands a new lens.

How Do You Take Action When You’re Stuck in the Six-Figure Fog?

Here’s how to recalibrate and move forward:

  • Get brutally honest with your numbers.
Stop chasing $100K revenue if what you really want is $100K income. That likely means aiming for $200K–$250K+.
  • Do the math on your dreams.
Want to retire your husband? Take Fridays off? Pay for private school? Calculate the actual cost so your goals are based in reality, not vibes.
  • Audit your strategy.
Are you still doing things that got you to $100K while trying to get to $300K? That mismatch is keeping you stuck.
  • Optimize your offer suite.
One-to-one only gets you so far. Look at pricing, retention, and how your offers align with your capacity.
  • Create systems that scale.
Whether it’s your sales process, onboarding, or delivery, if you’re still the only one driving it, you’re capping your growth.

Here’s the Empowering Truth

Six figures can feel good. But only if it’s your six-figure number, one that pays you well, funds your life, and gives you room to breathe.

Not someone else’s seven-figure fantasy. Not a vanity metric from a Facebook ad.

If you’re nodding your head, you’re not alone and you’re not behind. But you do need clarity, focus, and a strategy that matches your real goals.

That’s why I created the Focused Visionary Accelerator.
It’s not another generic six-figure blueprint. It’s a repeatable framework you can use at every stage, from $50K to $750K, because it’s rooted in the real math and strategy behind sustainable growth.
